Agreed, your offense will be taken strictly. Either an offense of hostility, and man handeling, colleges will frown upon it.

You may want to take it up with your guidence counselor at your earliest oppritunity. I think there's hope as you're only a freshmen but you'll have to take care of it now and make sure it never happens again.

They mean go to the coucelling office at your school, and talk with someone about it.
Yeah, its silly, really silly - but they take EVERYTHING seriously, whether it was playing around or not.

Yeah, it's on your permanent record. However, I doubt it will effect you all that much. Honestly, what guy hasn't gotten in trouble for something silly like that? As long as you try to avoid situations like that in future, and don't commit a felony, you should be fine. By the time you get around to applying for colleges, it'll be far enough in the past that it really won't matter much. What will matter are your extracurricular activities, your grades, your letters or recommendation from teachers, and your standardized test scores.

Unless there were some legal claims made against you, don't worry about it. Astraea hit it right on the head.

Nobody's perfect, and unless you are indicted on several offenses throughout your high school "career", one offense your first year out shouldn't make too big of an impact. Freshmen year is tough, and a little irrational behavior is expected, and as long as you keep your record pretty clean, you'll be fine. Of course, volunteer work never hurts, and would easily gloss over that small dent in your record, as well as open you up to many prestigious scholarships. It is my experience that volunteer work is just as valuable, if not more in some situations, than academic ability for certain scholarships.

I got into something similar during my freshmen year. A kid was angry at me because he had a personal grudge against me so he hit me and I beat the tar out of him. The school claimed that I "overdefended" myself, whatever that means. Nontheless....
I am concerned about my college aspirations, and I will tell you now: If you don't get into any more trouble, the effect will be nominal. Colleges like to see improvement in all areas, and demonstrating that it isn't a constant problem and that you've realized your mistakes and improved yourself from it can make the suspension make no difference in the end.
